Muar Trip 1: with Octhavia’s Otak Otak!
by christock on Jun.30, 2009, under Events & Travels, Food Galore
in CAPTIONS! (blame the lazy bug
)
It was just us and two cars, as we made our way down to Muar. For breakfast, we had kuey chap (and I don’t eat kuey chap
)
They had these flat noodles that looks like kuey tiao, but isn’t! This is where Datuk Chua came down to say hi, such a sweet sweet man
After breakfast we proceeded to Octhavia’s otak otak processing center, that was unfortunately closed during Sundays!
Nevertheless we were given freshly grilled otak otaks!
And boy were they really yummy!
Octhavia makes it really special, by producing a variety of styles to package the otak otak into. Some were awesome and some were pretty darn weird.
The crowd that came from Singapore! lol… and they were all amazed by the number of products the booth has.
Of course the usual product would be the steamed otak otak that came in prawns or fish meat. Here you can see it perfectly steamed and hot to eat.
Then there’s the deep fried ones in kataifi pastry (forgive the ugliness, couldn’t stop people from stealing them while i took the photos.
There’s also the curry puff style which I really like~!
Deep fried of course.
And this is the result: golden crunchy pastry…
with spicy and steamy hot otak otak inside, so yummy!
But the number one should go to this one: deep fried steamed otak otak pau. Apparently this product is so good that it’s hard to get hold of it in supermarkets that sell Octhavia stocks!
This is where we shopped till we dropped hehe.
Shitzoe is omnipresent!!
Situated at Muar, this place is your shopping heaven, or at least for the few of us namely Big Boys Oven of www.bigboysoven.com, Ken of www.foodpoi.com, CK of www.what2seeonline.com and a few others!
Who can tell me what this is?
Coming up on my next post: Muar Trip 2: of Seafoods and Fried Chicken!

It was a fine day when I thought of making a mini food trip, and hence I arranged for the little bunch of us to go out from morning till night. We went to Yut Kee first in the morning for some Roti Babi and some Roast Pork specialty thingie, courtesy of my cousin, then later I dropped the girls down at 1 Utama as I went for my first facial ever (another post for another day!) and later on we met again for dinner in this restaurant which looked pretty new, situated right beside the apparently Famous Hokkien Mee restaurant.
(I thought the name of the restaurant was too long for my taste though!)
The first thing I took notice of in the menu was its specialty drink. Once I saw the word Cucumber with Assam Jawa, my health conscious told me it would be something great, detoxifying and fresh. I wasn’t disappointed at all, not only did the taste rock, just by looking at it you really wish you’re having one right now this instant
The girls (Kylie and Karen) meanwhile ordered Ice Lemon Tea, and they came in really tall glasses that looked really nice, both in pictures and in real life.
We didn’t wait that long for our food to arrive, which was a pretty decent selection. The kitchen is clean, the ambiance bright and simple and the crowd, although packed, felt very homely here.
First up was Chicken in Butter gravy, which didn’t turn out quite like how we expected it to. Fortunately for us, it was something really really savoury and delicious! Every morsel was as tasty as the next and you won’t ever get bored eating it alone, or with rice!
We ordered a dish we’ve never seen anywhere else. When it came, we weren’t that surprised, but it was pretty…. darn good
So what is it really? It’s called “Rice with Gravy” or something to that extent. “Mun Fan” for the chinese. It taste exactly like the Hor Fun sauce but just replace the noodles with the rice, and yet, I sort of loved the outcome
At RM6 for a small portion that can feed two I thought it was well priced too
Then we also had the Yin Yong Pai Guat, which is basically Pork Ribs in twin sauces. Each sauce was unique and each morsel of pork ribs contained enough tastiness to completely blast your taste buds. Maybe a little overpowering so it’s best eaten with rice!
We also had Bittergourd egg as our vegetable dish (healthy diet right?) which makes up a complete meal for 3. Total amounted to about RM35 which means around RM11+ per person, so I thought it wasn’t too bad now was it? At least for a yummylicious dinner!
Click for a larger size of the menu, but I completely forgot to take the other side which contains the food menu
This is where the restaurant is located. Just circle the inner square of SS2 and it’s right at the corner near The Famous Hokkien Mee Store
So that was the scrumptious dinner we had and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Tell us if you’ve been there or are going there, we don’t mind joining you guys again!
On an unrelated note, this picture is to symbolize the breaking of the Malaysian Guinness Record of having the most number of bloggers attending a mamak session in Murni, SS2. WOO HOO!
The naked iPhone 3GS

Apparently it should have been called the iPhone 3GV instead. Recording and editing videos on it is simply fast and easy, and the one-click video uploading to YouTube is going to make this the best instant Video Capturing device to cover events that we’d normally use Twitter for (think live status updates, then live picture uploads and now live video uploading!)
Best part of all, the quality is really awesome because it’s optimized, and the size small enough to fully utilize the 3G connection. The internal hardware is also made to make this capability as efficient as possible!
So that’s why it should REALLY be called the iPhone 3GV, and that is why I can’t wait to have one in my hands despite all the complaints its receiving

First of all, this has GOT to be the BEST thing ever (ok I’m exaggerating here) but behold the Wii bowling ball!

I really really really want it!!!

————ok back to the main point
SO anyhow I’ve been really busy expanding my network to different media streams, and at the same time on a 100% go with my financial project, which I really hope to be successful with you playing a big part in it!

Also I have been investing in a lot of human talents of the late, one of which is Dennis Khor himself, who I’m very proud of. He was the producer of Runway 101 which got the attention it deserves.

You can read more about it from Mun Yee’s perspective who was there, and claimed I didn’t recognize her. Woman! I was so damn shy already with my name terpapar over the board and the booklets, I didn’t even there look anywhere okay! haha… but thanks for your write up! (btw I cannot comment on ur blogpost!)

I was there with Zoe as my guest and found my little investment to have tripled just by looking at the organisational skills, the manpower, the beautiful performances and the grandeur decor!

See more pictures of it by going to my facebook album part 1 and my facebook album Part 2.

At the end of the day, I met up with quite a few familiar faces like Leonard, Jess and Diese. Simon and some other MDG bloggers were there as well. It was fun, and we even headed for supper after that. Can’t wait for Runway 101: the 2nd though!
Still i have to say:

I thought she should have been 1st. What do you think?
