Kafe Loong Grill Fish, NZX @ Ara Jaya

by christock on Jul.31, 2009, under Food Galore

Upon arrival to the area, we noticed quite a few shops were closed down. It was only later that we learned about how only some places manage to survive although this place theoritically existed since 2 years back, but never quite made it. Kafe Loong Grill Fish, NZX @ Ara Jaya was one of them, and for a good reason too.

P1180727

When these were presented to us, I first thought, wow, colourful drinks. Fascinating. Could this be the reason why they managed to survive while the others died?

P1180731

And then came more colourful drinks! (ps it was the first time meeting the Witch as well, with her beautiful LX3, my fav camera of all time!) Each drink oozes of individuality and we had a hard time selecting the drinks for ourselves. I ended up with the blue drink with soursop inside, and I didn’t regret my decision ;)

P1180737

The restaurant surroundings are lively and colourful, giving a pretty ambience to onlookers. I personally loved the working clothes the staff have to wear, they honestly looked cool!

P1180746

Anyway to cut to the chase, we were served our first dish, which was the Roasted Pork Knuckle with Jelly Fish on the side. It was obviously tantalising, and you could smell the crispy skin freshly roasted, toying with your senses. The savoury dish went well with the varying sauces, and the Jelly Fish lent a little textural experience to the dish too.

P1180754

We also had some Tau Foo Egg dish in tomato-based sauce and littered with vegetables. Simply by looking at the dish, one does not have to taste it to know that the cuisine could most probably be a fusion one, as I’ve not tried anything quite like it. The taste was so so, but it was definitely an  experience to go for.

P1180757

Now, the Japanese Escargots @ RM 15.00 (S)/RM 25.00 (B) is arguably the best dish among those we’ve tasted here. I could not get enough of those little morsels of delight, surrounded by savouringly made butter sauce. In fact, I even wollaped the pastry, best eaten with the sauce. Just ask Jessica, she totally agreed with me. Definitely a must try!

P1180770

There was also the Yam and Pork dish, which I didn’t really take a fancy too. That being said, if I was a fan of the dish it’d probably be something I like. But I’m not, so I only took a bite of each to try it out, and it was decent.

P1180775

When the Special Mixed Vege @ RM 15.00 dish came, I thought it was a beautiful piece of art! Look at how the dry bowl of meehoon look-a-like was turned into a canvas holding onto the pile of vegetables, classic! It boosted my visual appetite, which in turn made it all taste the yummier ;D

P1180781

I think this is the Double Egg Yolk Fried Prawns which simply burst with flavours. I thought it was a tad too salty for me, but it could be because I wasn’t used to the kind of dishes prepared, as some of these dishes are truly one of its kind.

P1180789

Ah. Take a gooooood look at this Assam Grilled Sting Ray. What can I say, perfectly grilled Sting Ray, in perfectly flavoured, sour and spicy assam sauce, grilled in the perfect temperature to lock the perfect taste. What can I say, this restaurant didnt’ disappoint at least by name!

P1180797

We had fishes a plenty: the next one served was the Meat Fish fried in Marmite Sauce. Why Meat Fish you say? Well, basically the meat on this fish is really tough. Like, really tough. But it seemed as though it was meant to go really well with the style of cooking, and upon placing a piece of fish meat dabbed in marmite sauce into my mouth, I knew I wasn’t wrong. A definite must try as well!

P1180799

And last but not least we had Beautiful Smell La La, at least that’s what I think it’s called! Tasty soup cooked in alocohol and with plenty of la la’s to go around makes for a good meal, definitely an interest to la la lovers!

P1180800

I was lucky to be one of the invited few by Big Boys Oven, along with others including Jessica, the Witch, Superwilson and of course, Richard and Edward. Looks like my days of exercising will be over with all this food I’m taking, but I’m not complaining am I?! haha.. Where else can you get to try interesting dishes, like this fish above?! So weird right lol…

Anyway, do look out for this restaurant if you’re around the area, the details below should help!

Ah bliss. Where else could I get my body pampered while the stomach awaits for a feast fit for a king? At Eccucino, that is.

P1150530

The buffet spread has been remodified to fit into one of their theme for that moment, which is Fit for Life. I’m very impressed with their initiative, very unlike most other hotel restaurants I know of.

P1150532

Besides, you can be reassured on its quality being maintained, ANY TIME and ANY DAY.

P1150538

A perfect place to bring a date or your family should you be looking for an occasion demanding eye candies without compromising on its taste.

These are some of the people who are responsible for the creation of this superb synergy. The lady on the left is Eunice, the doctor responsible of lecturing the chefs on salt content etc etc lol.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel, not only for myself, but as a representative of a united Malaysian entity.
May God be with you, our dear beloved Yasmin Ahmad. Rest in peace, for your touching stories will forever be remembered by us, the generation to come.

I swear to forever attempt to continue what you and my dearest departed Markus Ng stand for, under my very own sweat and blood. This I promise you.

La Casa @ Desa Park City

by christock on Jul.19, 2009, under Food Galore

La Casa, found at Desa Park City’s only mini shopping centre, is a place for an interesting palate review. The owner and chef does not only concentrate on giving you authentic Italian cuisine, they do have their own specialties as well, home bred through the experience they have gathered over the years and unashamed to display it via their menu. Tired as I am, let me give you a brief walk on the dishes that they have to offer!

P1180097

The Greek salad was, well, solid enough with the right ingredients all chopped up and garnished in garlic olive oil, littered with olives and feta cheese. I personally am not a fan of salad, much less the Greek ones, but hey it might just rock your boat!

P1180099

Thereafter we had Pumpkin Soup, which was very heartwarmingly nice. The warm and savoury soup did do wonders to whet our appetite, and the crunchy croutons lent a different texture to it too as it soaked the soup up.

P1180110

WARNING: This is NOT a main dish, as all of us suspected. This appetizer, ALSO A SOUP, is the Oxtail Soup that all of us came to LOVE! Filled generously with lots of meat and soup boiled to gravy-like texture served with a toast of bread, how can one NOT ask for more? Truly a wonderful soup to have, and the portion is not to say small either ;)

P1180116P1180131

Lorina’s Sparkling Blueberry Lemonade, by the way, was a very nice drink. It’s my first time seeing this sold at a restaurant and so I took it, and to be honest its taste is quite commendable, so do give it a try! For one thing, it definitely went well with my second most favourite dish of the day, the Pan Fried Salmon in Salsa sauce. It’s so amazing that it’s hard to describe, but needless to say I even licked the plate dry for all it’s worth ;)

P1180124

The Duck Confit was alright, maybe a tad salty for my tastes but at least the pasta was springy, and the sundried tomato (homemade, by the way) made up for it. In fact, I finished the sun dried tomato but unfortunately left the others untouched.

P1180139

Thereafter the Lamb Shank was served with rice and MORE sun dried tomatos YUM! (ok obviously i’m getting too excited about them tomatos :P ) The lamb meat wasn’t tough as it looked, and it was pretty awesome to chew it together with the red sauce that it came with. Definitely a taster to be reckoned with.

P1180155

Start with the Spaghetti Bolognese and Meatballs for a filling meal. The meatballs are special, in a sense that it combines finely chopped beef and herbs all freshly mixed and stuffed with cheese inside, so that once cooked the cheese would melt it’s way to form the ball as you see! Try it out yourselves :)

P1180161

Then of course, one must always try having the pizza where there are pizzas available! Interestingly enough every restaurant that serves pizza has their own mix and dough, giving each a unique texture and taste that you could learn to identify. We had their specialty, which includes generous portions of mushrooms, tomato, turkey ham, bacon bits and pineapple!

P1180165

I can’t remember the name, but this was one of the better pizzas I ate. Price wasn’t too ludicrous too if I’m not wrong. and look at the melted cheese, now that’s what i call a PIZZA!

P1180168P1180182

Large size for comparison on my face wtf. Oh by the way, don’t leave yet cause we haven’t even started with the desserts ;)

P1180172

Tiramisu. Now. Usually we’d have an overly powdery topping ontop of the Tiramisu, but in this case it was just a perfect layer, and with a spoonful of it one case enjoy the texturised sensation of the powdery choco shake, double whipped cream inside and chunky portions from within! Truly a taste to behold.

P1180176

There is a secret to this dessert. Made entirely out of Sesame seed-based ingredients, this creamy sesame flavoured dessert isn’t just for anybody. One must have a fine taste for an out-of-the-ordinary flavour in order to appreciate it, so if you are thinking of trying it out, do it with an open mind. I guarantee you it’s something out of this world that could have selective preferences :P

P1180179

But of course, chocolate lovers would definitely go for the Chocolate Mousse, creamy balls inside in contrast with the wafer-like crunchy craters on top, with a couple of chick dollops of white chocolate under another frosty wafer of chocolate, topped with Almond nuts.

Enough said? :P
