We were very happy to be invited to this quaint restaurant situated just by the main road facing LDP thanks to Jessicat, which I found to be a hidden gem among the many restaurants situated at Damansara Utama or what we call “Uptown”. To summarize it a little: great tasting delicacies to try, 100% pork free and decently priced, too! Only downside is that they don’t serve desserts, so thankfully there were quite a few other dessert places to go to after a meal here π
Now without further ado, let’s get straight to the mouthwatering food, shall we?
We started with some appetizers, beginning with the Spicy Ika. Can’t quite recall how much it is, but it was certainly a starter worth enjoying, giving you a tantalizing expectations of what’s to come.
Then came the homemade Potato Salad, and at RM7.50 it may seem a hefty price to pay, however I would certainly recommend it as it’s such a big hit even with us food bloggers around that there wasn’t enough to go! I should think that is sufficient enough to convey how delicious it was, nuff said. (ooh the salad’s funky too, try!)
We also tried Smoke salmon salad β RM12.95, made of tasty assorted vegetables layered with ample amount of smoked salmon, topped with homemade salad sauce. If you felt that the amount you had didn’t live up to expectation after reading this blog, let me know and I’ll convey the message- sometimes all it takes is feedback to get the quality up to par. In fact, this restaurant has been around for about 5 years, a great indication that they mean business when it comes to what they do!
One of my favourite coming up, the Kaki Fry β RM18.50, which is simply one of the best breaded oysters I’ve ever had (then again it’s not really common is it?). The crumbs locked in the flavours one expect of juicy pieces of oysters, giving us a blast to remember. We had second portions, we did π
Finally, our last appetizer (yeah, finally!) turned out to be the all amazing Soft Shell Crab Schimi Age β RM19.90 – what looked like an orgy of tasty morsels put together into
a flavourful ball of crabby goodness! If you like soft shell crab, you will certainly find this dish to be a delightful experience π
Tribute to the amazing blogger Jessica Tan aka theJessicaT who never fails to amaze me with her neverending energy! Thanks for the invite dear π
Now begins the main course, Chicken Teriyaki β RM13.50, that also comes with miso soup and rice. This here is a dish so well marinated that the juices within the meat was so sweet to taste. I particularly loved this one as I have a soft spot for sweet dishes π
Here’s a pic of Lionel cutting the pieces up for us! Read his+wifey iamthewitch‘s and Ken Foodpoi‘s blogpost on this review, it’s really good!
A breather in between with Edamame beans, yum!
Then we went on with the Tempura Soba β RM17.50, can’t go wrong with that. If you love fried stuff, this is the one for you (and of course, the lovely prawns <3)
I however found the Salmon Teriyaki β RM17.90 to just be average. I hope more can be done with this dish because I definitely smell potential in it! But maybe I have a different taste for this, why not give it a try and let me know?
Now comes the momma san of all momma steaks! The Moromiso Steak β RM34.90, is certainly the dish not to be missed! Give it a go and you’ll see why… with the succulent beef strips, tasty miso-based sauce and freshly boiled asparagus, it’s one dish that’s worth every penny π
Of course you could always go for the more traditional Rib Eye Teriyaki β RM24.90, less funky and more or less suitable for all taste buds hehe.
Lastly the rolls started to come out… these are some of Hokano’s favourite ones: the Alaska Roll β RM18.50. Made of fresh salmon slices with tobiko on top, it’s one no brainer menu that everybody will enjoy.
The Kano Roll though was my clear favourite out of all the rolls, and even Hokano’s prized roll as you will see below. It’s made of prawn tempura, crab sticks, unagi, avocado and tobiko on top, typical ingredients but packaged to kill!
Presenting to you, Hokano Roll β RM21.50, also known to be the signature dish here. Eel lovers will love this so much that they will go for seconds! No need to say much, a must order whenever you are here.
Finally, the Spider Roll β RM16.50, mainly made out of soft shell crab and spicy salmon! Yes, you heard that right. Should give a good kick to your taste buds π
So that’s what I have to say about this little place called Hokano. Considered as a gem in Uptown, you’re definitely not going to miss this one out. Find below all ways to trace this place π
