Previous Wimbledon Summer Party

Starting Monday the Swede starts his official graduate training at Bloomberg, a financial cum media corporation that many in the career world should be at least informed about. Apart from that some of my batch doing 3 year course are now finding themselves in major Investment Banking companies, earning their hard-earned, long awaited salary in pounds after 3 gruelling years in Imperial College. All these got me thinking about my future which I’ve spent months and months planning as far as I could, and the subsequent excitement that comes with it.

You cannot believe how excited I am, even in the midst of my singular resit happening in 2 days time, at exactly 1400 hours. The future has so much to offer, no? I really can’t wait… =)

I won’t be surprised if my friends already know that I’m quite an ambitious lad despite my seemingly alarming lazy nature. I vowed to myself one day when I’m free, I have to list down every single accomplishment no matter how small they are, so that I can visibly acknowledge my quest for achievement, which incidently is what this blog is all about in the first place. Stay tuned =)

Anyway, back to the subject… The trip took place before I flew back, and obviously when the Wimbledon Tournament was up la! Er… I’ll just let the pictures do the talking πŸ˜€

The Queue… As you can see, it’s freaking long… =.=

My darling Maria, incidently it was her birhtday yesterday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

The Beaut Cypriet Maria and The Weird Boy Boy Tock =(

We saw Sharapova and the only pro-tennis player from Cyprus… from outside the court =P

The Big Lawn, where we watched the Huge Screen… A lot of people, no? Can you spot the beauty queen? *click*

The two sweeties. Absent were YT and Alvin who worked there over summer too

Overall it was a great experience, a bit pricey but hey, once in a life time right? (Yeah, not a tennis fan =P) Just to warn you guys, to get tickets on gate we had to reach there and queue up by 6am… even then, we were number 4000+ on the list, heh. Alright guys, back to my final revision.
Au revoir!

Maria insists on a better picture!

I think photos don’t give her enough credit anyways!

The Swede in my Room

5 more days to my resit. No, no plural, just singular. In another chapter of my oh-so-loser life, I am actually back in London for my SQT, which isn’t too bad really. I really love London. I love the fact that it’s colder here. I love it that I have my own connections and friends here. I enjoy having international colleagues and classmates who are not only the best people to be around with, but also high-flyers that may one day be a successful person in their respective country!

Simply put, my life is here right in the world’s local town. =P

Fisher Hall, a Victorian style residential area… I’m staying here!

The clouds look so much better over here…

Taken outside the window in my halls =)

Presenting the Swede, Johan Nystrom and his iBook!

Then again, nothing beats Malayian food πŸ˜‰ Malaysia Boleh lolz… I’m starving here, which is good, at least I’ll be able to lose weight (with help from these diet plums too, I hope… damn this is more embarassing that I would have imagined =P)

One wonders how thick cheesie‘s crust really is to not suffer from any embarassment whatsoever… Chis, tak tahu malu lol =P

Malaysian bloggers in the UK

Now with the uproar of bloggers getting invitations by the media to speak their minds off on just about any topic in Malaysia, one begins to wonder if the whole potrayal of informative media is slowly changing (or should I say, evolving) to something of a more independent view. True enough, bloggers are the “real” watchers from afar, for they don’t need to be diplomatic in fear of prosecution (by their affliates), nor do they feel the need to add sugar and spice to the story (especially if there are any “special treatment*” involved here).     *read: sucking up

I’ve never really noticed how on earth a single voice permeating from the internet can have a great impact, until I realized there’s more to it than just a blogger’s view on a matter. See, some bloggers are like “ministers“, whereupon their words are read by hundreds and hundreds of blog surfers, without the need to “buy” their readership. These “ministers” (I’ll refer to them as ministers from now on, since I find it funny) may or may not realise that their words have deep impact on their readers, because, not unlike a cannonball effect, whatever they say may spark comments, be it negative or positive, from their hundreds of viewerships.

I have more to say about this, but let us get to the point of me writing this post. As you can see, I’m more of a picture blogger, wanting to show my extensive collection of photos so that my friends can enjoy the sights that I see whenever I am in an interesting place. However, as part of my UKEC (that’s the United Kingdom Executive Council for Malaysian Students in UK and EIRE) duty I wanted to know how people are reacting to our now downed website (as of now, the domain has not been extended yet by the guy who owns it) and while doing so, I found out a few interesting articles, namely this one, by Howsy, an Ipoh lang based in UK.

After what Jeff Ooi and Lim Kit Siang commented about the UKEC it was no surprise to me that all responses to our plea will just be negative replies. It is really sad to say that UKEC has had such a bad historical past that try as we may, our current committee may just be a victim of some misproper handling of the organisation from time beyond. And yet, we still fought hard, and did things the way we wanted UKEC to be. Now, I would have gladly surmised that there was nothing we could do to improve our situation, get my ass out of it and settle for something else (as of now I’ve already been offered a few jobs to care for other organization’s websites) but somehow I feel there’s something that can be done about it.

If you’ve read everything so far, your head should be crying in an obvious matter-of-factly tone “You’re gonna use bloggers to help you!” and yes, I am afraid you are right. Since we have many Malaysian bloggers in the UK, as well as Malaysian bloggers in Malaysia who are fairly concerned about news pertaining to the land of English, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t enlist their help! After all, it isn’t just the bloggers that we’re dealing with, it’s the throng of readership that they will carry along with them. Such are the powers of huge bloggers like the all-powerful Jeff Ooi and others like Vincent from PJ and Aisehman from http://www.aisehman.org/ just to name a few. More socio-political bloggers can be found through Howsy’s blog-roll which you can find on the sidebar.

Heck, I’m not even side-lining other influential bloggers like Michael Ooi or Dr Liew from MicheaOoi.Net and DrLiew.Net respectively (notice the similarities? Maybe I should get a ChristopherTock.net domain… then again, maybe not =P). I cannot imagine the wave of movement if any one of them looses the lion from its cage. We even have our very own local news bloggers like Wan Aimran or Nik Azmi who’s hearts are close to home, though they are both studying here in Imperial College London. As the names aforementioned are just the tip of the iceberg, we know there’s so much more (ministers) out there that if we collectively gather them as one, I don’t see how that won’t be a better representation of Malaysian students in UK and EIRE… what more with hundreds of other voices (whom, I must add, are not necessarily followers) they carry along with them.

Hence I will now be actively pursuing this particular method, and maybe, just maybe, UKEC can truly become independent and once more be a respected organization bent on looking after the welfare of Malaysians, independent of their races or social status. I shall end this post without any pictures, a silent tribute to a side of myself that I do not usually potray to the world of my readers =)

Thank you.

Kuching Family Trip 2006

Hey guys! I’m back in London and currently living temporarily at Fisher Hall, owned by Imperial College London. Now, everyone knows that Imperial is a University dedicated to technology, so I shit you not when I say we have one of the fastest internet connections in UK =D
Anyway as promised I’m in the mood to blog again, with many, many pictures to come! This time it’s about my family trip to Kuching, in fact, my first time to the Borneo Island even ^_^;

First Impression

Up there is (apparently, according to June =P) the 3rd largest airport in Malaysia… But somehow it looks small to me, don’t you think? I have to say, though, the internal design is boo-ti-fool man! You have to come see if you don’t believe πŸ˜‰
The second picture is the scenery outside my window at Hilton Kuching… What do you think? Sugoi ne? =P

Weird Veggies

For some crazy reason the two vegetable dishes can only be obtained here in Kuching… I loved the first one, not sure what it’s called now, but the second dish is… well…. disgusting =P Funnily enough June loves it, so I gather that weird people like to eat weird things, like paku-pakis! ( doesn’t it look like one?! )

Friendship Park

So June took us to the Friendship Park, to forge friendships (although when we got there, we saw a car parked nearby with all lights off but I swear I saw some movements inside it… maybe this Friendship Park is meant to further an already existing “friendship” =P) We saw this damn nice place in the middle of the lake, which is a dimsum restaurant by morning… Super breathtaking la!

Of Hilton and Beaches

Don’t mind the first picture.. It’s just a normal Sunny-side Up, but I just love how ight bounces off the membrane on the top layer…. okaaaaay Anyway we went to the beach, around 1 hours drive away from town. Nothing much to say, except that I’ve become more tanned since this summer holidays I’ve been swimming and going to different beaches πŸ˜‰

Cultural Village

Just a few random pics at the Cultural Village… The cat super kawaii ne? hehe… I’ve got this weakness for adorable creatures! Oh by the way the stairs they use for the Long Houses are really steep =.= Don’t know how many tribal people broke their legs because of it…

The Kuching Creatures

The Orang-Utan Feeding Centre

Your brother… hehe, so sweet hor they all =D

Can anyone recognize what fish is this? *TRIVIA*

This Sea-Otter must be the most adorable creature I have ever seen! =.=

“I believe I can fly…” sings the Croc!

End of Kuching Series

Before I forget, I must thank Splashmilk for recommending me quite a number of things to do while in Kuching (his hometown). The first picture above happened to be the best restaurant we had in the 4 days we’ve been in Kuching, serving the best Chicken Rice there, and we wouldn’t have known about it if not for Mikel πŸ˜€ The Char Siew there is to die for! Thanks Mikel and June for your Kuching hospitality that knows no bounds! You have my heartfelt gratitude hehe… Maybe next time we can have Kuching Kolo Mee (my uber-favourite dish!) together next year when we meet up!

Randomness

Does anyone know what dish this is called?
