Two Malaysians to Perform with Tiësto

Five promising DJs in Malaysia have competed in front of a panel of industry experts in Heineken Found @ Thirst DJ Search in Mist Club just today, a few hours ago! The champion will not just take home RM10,000 in cash but form a career overnight by sharing the same stage together with the World’s No. 1 DJ –  Tiësto in Heineken Thirst in the Sepang International Circuit this 10 December – now how’s that for a prize!

Just to show that passion happens in all kinds of ways, the five finalists come from an advertising executive, videographer to a hairstylist in this year’s Heineken Found @ Thirst DJ Search. DJ Frozensteps, Nick Haydez, Tommy Cham, Major and the only female competitor, Darling Sabrina, comes from a diverse music style and all possess the X factor that landed them in the top five spots in the competition. However for some reason that I cannot fathom, Tommy Cham ended up being the number one although the rest of us on the floor (even other spinners!) could vouch for DJ Nick Haydez being the BEST DJ on the floor, receiving raving reviews from the judges!

Judged by the panel below… And I still can’t believe how these judges all gave Tommy a glowing review without ever getting to the specifics! Ah well… not my call.

  • Blastique – Founder of Mile High Sounds DJ training academy, legendary scene DJ & mentor of the winner and runner up of Found @ Thirst
  • Joey G – Host of Found @ Thirst DJ Search finals, Heineken Thirst Studio 2006’s champion who won a recording session in London & performed alongside Kanye West, Paul Oakenfold & Steve Aoki in Las Vegas

 “Heineken Found @ Thirst DJ search forms part of a wider series of efforts by Heineken to discover and nurture local music and creative visionaries across platforms including Heineken Thirst, Heineken Green Room & Heineken Green Space,” added Jasmine Foong, Marketing Manager of Heineken Malaysia. This, is what I truly believe in, and hopefully we can even incorporate it into EYE Project!

So what does this mean to DJ Tommy? This is what he’s getting…

  • Play the opening set in Heineken Thirst, December 10 in Sepang International Circuit (WITH FRIGGIN TIESTO!)
  • Production training at Mile High Sounds DJ & music academy

Thanks to my awesome friends, #iPhone4s4spinzer fund has reached it’s tipping point!

Due to a friend of mine who claims to have positively impacted his business, he has contributed to the LARGEST portion of the fund which means that I’ve finally received RM2,300-ish (haven’t really counted yet) as a collected gift from all you special people out there!

Thank you, thank you and thank you! To all who have contributed, this is the best gift I can ever have – and you all made it happen. Not only will it help me in organizing my life, it also allows me to work more efficiently on the go, which is very important in the work that I do. You have really made me believe that there is kindness in the world 🙂

And to those who are #naysayers or were disgusted at this act of crowdsourcing – well, let’s just put it this way: I have worked hard and helped a lot of people out there and never once asked for anything in return. This is a way that my friends and people who support me can help me out in my task to do work for the masses, the communities which I’m involved in and more. Yes, the money may have fed homeless people out there, but rather, wouldn’t you want to support those who do real work for these guys? I may not be your type of person, but I’m sure there are those kind of people in your life, and have you done your bit to help them out? Think about it… and I hope I can share with you the love of giving.

That’s a whopping 1,664,911 unique visitors in the month of September alone. Let’s compare this with the report that was published by a local newspaper on the 17th of November 2011 entitled “Dealmates overtakes Groupon”.

“Dealmates has overtaken Groupon in terms of Website traffic in Malaysia, receiving about 247,000 visitors for September”.

So how does that tally? Not even comparable.

Now let me just add that although I know Joel Neoh as a friend, and that I don’t know anyone from Dealmates, I am not blogging about this out of biasness. I just simply hate the fact that lies can be spread on something as influential as local newspapers.

That’s right, the problem is not that Dealmates could come out with such a report, rather, how the newspaper could even publish it! Next time, please do your homework and check/clarify data first before accepting and publishing anything on your paper, otherwise your credibility will be affected and though it may not rock the boat now, it certainly lends towards a negative perception when done enough times.

Malaysian newspapers, please buck up. Now let me watch my football in peace, Malaysia’s leading 1 over Indonesia woo hoo! #MASvsIND
