Japanese Steak @ Hokano, Damansara Utama

P1040606 We were very happy to be invited to this quaint restaurant situated just by the main road facing LDP thanks to Jessicat, which I found to be a hidden gem among the many restaurants situated at Damansara Utama or what we call “Uptown”. To summarize it a little: great tasting delicacies to try, 100% pork free and decently priced, too! Only downside is that they don’t serve desserts, so thankfully there were quite a few other dessert places to go to after a meal here πŸ™‚

Now without further ado, let’s get straight to the mouthwatering food, shall we?

P1040610

We started with some appetizers, beginning with the Spicy Ika. Can’t quite recall how much it is, but it was certainly a starter worth enjoying, giving you a tantalizing expectations of what’s to come.

P1040613

Then came the homemade Potato Salad, and at RM7.50 it may seem a hefty price to pay, however I would certainly recommend it as it’s such a big hit even with us food bloggers around that there wasn’t enough to go! I should think that is sufficient enough to convey how delicious it was, nuff said. (ooh the salad’s funky too, try!)

P1040621

We also tried Smoke salmon salad – RM12.95, made of tasty assorted vegetables layered with ample amount of smoked salmon, topped with homemade salad sauce. If you felt that the amount you had didn’t live up to expectation after reading this blog, let me know and I’ll convey the message- sometimes all it takes is feedback to get the quality up to par. In fact, this restaurant has been around for about 5 years, a great indication that they mean business when it comes to what they do!

P1040624

One of my favourite coming up, the Kaki Fry – RM18.50, which is simply one of the best breaded oysters I’ve ever had (then again it’s not really common is it?). The crumbs locked in the flavours one expect of juicy pieces of oysters, giving us a blast to remember. We had second portions, we did πŸ˜€

P1040630

Finally, our last appetizer (yeah, finally!) turned out to be the all amazing Soft Shell Crab Schimi Age – RM19.90 – what looked like an orgy of tasty morsels put together into

Lasts travel the this instructions how and, cheap viagra overall it months before original have.

a flavourful ball of crabby goodness! If you like soft shell crab, you will certainly find this dish to be a delightful experience πŸ˜€

P1040634

Tribute to the amazing blogger Jessica Tan aka theJessicaT who never fails to amaze me with her neverending energy! Thanks for the invite dear πŸ˜€

P1040638

Now begins the main course, Chicken Teriyaki – RM13.50, that also comes with miso soup and rice. This here is a dish so well marinated that the juices within the meat was so sweet to taste. I particularly loved this one as I have a soft spot for sweet dishes πŸ™‚

P1040647

Here’s a pic of Lionel cutting the pieces up for us! Read his+wifey iamthewitch‘s and Ken Foodpoi‘s blogpost on this review, it’s really good!

P1040649

A breather in between with Edamame beans, yum!

P1040658

Then we went on with the Tempura Soba – RM17.50, can’t go wrong with that. If you love fried stuff, this is the one for you (and of course, the lovely prawns <3)

P1040664

I however found the Salmon Teriyaki – RM17.90 to just be average. I hope more can be done with this dish because I definitely smell potential in it! But maybe I have a different taste for this, why not give it a try and let me know?

P1040667

Now comes the momma san of all momma steaks! The Moromiso Steak – RM34.90, is certainly the dish not to be missed! Give it a go and you’ll see why… with the succulent beef strips, tasty miso-based sauce and freshly boiled asparagus, it’s one dish that’s worth every penny πŸ˜€

P1040675

Of course you could always go for the more traditional Rib Eye Teriyaki – RM24.90, less funky and more or less suitable for all taste buds hehe.

P1040677

Lastly the rolls started to come out… these are some of Hokano’s favourite ones: the Alaska Roll – RM18.50. Made of fresh salmon slices with tobiko on top, it’s one no brainer menu that everybody will enjoy.

P1040686

The Kano Roll though was my clear favourite out of all the rolls, and even Hokano’s prized roll as you will see below. It’s made of prawn tempura, crab sticks, unagi, avocado and tobiko on top, typical ingredients but packaged to kill!

P1040689

Presenting to you, Hokano Roll – RM21.50, also known to be the signature dish here. Eel lovers will love this so much that they will go for seconds! No need to say much, a must order whenever you are here.

P1040698

Finally, the Spider Roll – RM16.50, mainly made out of soft shell crab and spicy salmon! Yes, you heard that right. Should give a good kick to your taste buds πŸ™‚

P1040603

So that’s what I have to say about this little place called Hokano. Considered as a gem in Uptown, you’re definitely not going to miss this one out. Find below all ways to trace this place πŸ˜‰

I'm flying with Firefly – Inaugural Flight to Kuching

I’m kinda excited. Hey, okay, that’s an understatement. I’m overtly excited as in 12 hours I will be flying to Kuching, my second trip there since 2006! The last time I was there, I had the pleasure of being hosted by June Then, a blogger whom I’ve never met before but drove all the way to take me around town. Thanks June!

The Melanau Tall House

However this time I have the pleasure to be on a sponsored trip to Kuching along with some other bloggers notably Rebecca Saw and Jerine Lay, thanks to Firefly! So far, everything seems to be pretty organized from our trip at KL Sentral to the airport to the arrangement at our destination for 4 days 3 nights in total. Let’s hope it stays that way πŸ˜‰

I just need to remember to bring along my booking or PNR number and identification (acceptable forms are original MYKad and original passport) to board. Somebody please remind me? haha!

Cultural Performance

The Sarawak Tourism Board has advised us that it can get chilly at night if it rains, so I am probably going to take along my jacket. On top of that, my 20kg baggage limit will be filled with outdoor shoes and gear cause we were informed that there’s going to be some outdoor activities such as an easy jungle trek. (how easy, I don’t know!)

Oh and the reason for this media event is because we’ll be flying on the Firefly Boeing 737 – 800. Yes, it’s the launch together with a Media Fam Trip in Kuching. And we’ll be staying at the Sarawak Cultural Village w00t!!

Find my itinerary below, and my Kuching readers, do check if we can meet up on the way, look for me via Twitter!

The Wonders of a Clown named Dr Patch Adams

I had the chance to attend the awesome “the Gathering of Great Minds” Conference Party (yes, it’s a Conference AND a party at the same time!) and got to know several figure heads (and if I may call them, friends too) who I really respect, namely Marina Mahathir and Anas Zubedy. I also got to know the other speakers who are known for their own initiatives that has helped human beings in their own way.

P1030235P1030242

The two speakers were amazing. One on Mad Men (nice one Marina!) and the other on Buy 1 Give 1 initiative, superb!

P1030246

Marina’s slide. I’ve got to agree with it. I think one of the points made is why does one need a “Women’s Wing” for anything at all, specifically in politics? Men and women are of the same standard, there really is no need to split it up!

P1030248

Of course our friend Anas Zubedy went back to the basics, asking us what is reality about? Eventually we talked about common sense, and how this world lacks of it, plain as day.

P1030270

The press conference! So happy that YCM was also mentioned πŸ™‚ Thanks Melor!

P1030272

The awesome peeps! From R-L: Dhyan Vimal, Roshan, Anas Zubedy, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Melor Hidayah and Masami Sato.

P1030281

The fun crowd who didn’t know what to expect when a special someone came… And who is that person?

P1030291 P1030297

Presenting Dr Patch Adams!

P1030298

He’s a little mad, yet the most sane out of all of us!

P1030328

Thanks Tim Fernandez. Now guys, JUMP for the WHOLE transcript thanks to Joanna Marie Gough.

`Fun integral part of success in business’
New Straits Times, Jul 31, 2010 | by Rozanna Latiff

KUALA LUMPUR: Christopher Tock has this to say to young entrepreneurs: Don’t be afraid to have fun.

The Petaling Jaya-born social media activist, who values hard work and success, believes fun is an integral part of success in the business world.

His fun side is most evident through his regularly-updated blog, Spinzer (www.spinzer.us), where he writes on anything ranging from business and social media projects to sports, food and travel.

His online moniker – Spinzer – in fact, is derived from “topspin”, his favourite table-tennis technique.

“Some people called me Spinz, and I myself used the name, Spinzerus, on online game sites. The nickname stuck,” he said.

Tock plays a vital part as a writer, web designer and event organiser for two web organisations with very different agendas.

Youth Corporate Malaysia (YCM) is a network for young entrepreneurs that is known for hosting the “CEO series” talks with local business icons such as Microsoft Malaysia managing director Yasmin Mahamood and Bursa chief executive officer Datuk Yusli Yusoff. The other is RandomAlphabets.com, the social unity and development organisation behind the famous KL Freeze in 2008 and the Glee Flashdance Mob which captured headlines earlier this year.

Tock said he has always wanted to combine the different sides of his personality which he believed was a product of his upbringing.

“My father, a finance consultant, is an incredibly social and street-wise person, while my mother, a banker, is a very ambitious and hard-working woman,” he said, adding that he also liked meeting different kinds of people.

An avid sports fan, he played hockey and soccer in his secondary school days at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar where he also emerged as a star student as the recipient of the KTJ Scholarship award.

Later in London, where he studied joint mathematics and computer science at Imperial College, he met Wan Mohd Firdaus Wan Mohd Fuaad, another student leader with whom he has worked on multiple projects.

Together, they revived the United Kingdom Executive Council for Malaysian students (UKEC) and launched events such as the UKEC Careers’ Fair, Projek Amanat Negara IV and the 1st Malaysian Student Leaders’ Summit 2007 before returning to help set up YCM in 2008.

Tock said many of his activities came from a desire to prove himself, saying too many young Malaysians placed unnecessary limits on themselves.

“Don’t wait for others to help. Create opportunities for yourself and others will be naturally willing to help you,” he said.

Despite his achievements, Tock does not see himself as a youth leader.

“I’ve always been the person who supports others in their endeavours whether in helping to set up websites or running operations,” he said.

He believes everyone has a role to play in the growth of a developing nation.

“Not everyone can be leaders, but that doesn’t mean you can’t contribute in a meaningful way.

“Good leaders need good supporters too,” he said.

The most important thing, Tock said, was to remain honest and sincere in every endeavour.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re starting a business or helping someone else start one as long as you’re doing it for the right reasons,” he said.

Christopher Tock can be reached on Twitter at http:// www.twitter.com/spinzer, or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ christock.
