#MalaysiaBoleh – Taking Football to a new social level

First there was the #iheartmalaysia storm during Merdeka, and we thought we took patriotism to the next level.

Then came the #AFFSuzukiCup where the first half of the Final Leg match

featuring Malaysia vs Indonesia was played at Bukit Jalil Stadium at Boxing Day. All was well until lasers made an appearance, and the next thing you know, a cyber war erupted! Uncouth Twitteratis from Malaysia and Indonesia starting mudslinging each other, and the result: #malaysiacheatlaser hashtag was the worldwide no.1 Trending Topic, thanks to hundreds and thousands of Indonesian Twitterati!

Some Malaysian Twitterati then retorted with their own hashtag #indonesiasourgrapes which didn’t make it to the trending list. (thank God! Only He knows the number of Msian websites that will be hacked if THAT happened). Responsible Malaysians then gave a hearty comeback with #malaysia and #iheartmalaysia hashtags, even more than could be seen during Merdeka. It was amazing and heartening to see everyone unite, telling their neighbours that it was okay, and that we were also ashamed with the laser incident. I had my fair share of attacks, but like with every situation that goes out-of-hand, it was definitely a heat-of-the-moment thing as everyone is just being too passionate about their country.

Thankfully some really great Indonesians came up to throw their support, saying that the people on the ground weren’t too badly affected by the situation, and that the emotions are just hyped up on the social network. However that didn’t stop new hashtags from coming in as the debate intensed on the Twittersphere the next day. #iloveindonesia and HATE MALAYSIA became top trending, once again proving Indonesia to be a force to reckon with! A twitter user then said “Lucky China is banned from Twitter… imagine with their population, the hashtags would have been dominated by them!” and I just happen to agree.

Heck, even Gizmodo picked up the news and thanks to @tekong, there were even proof that nobody is really innocent when it comes to laser in football games. What, is this turning into a Star Wars-themed sport? Jedi’s on pitch. Nice.

Anyhow, the hatred has died down, and now, the fiercely competitive and hugely unpredictable reaches its climax in Jakarta tonight with the #HarimauMalaya facing the Indonesia team with a 3 goal advantage at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Will we see waves of yellow-shirt supporters brave the masses of Indonesian fans there, especially with the sentiments we’ve seen on line?

I don’t know, but I’m sure as hell that with the influential Twitterati of Malaysia starting new wave of hashtag called #MalaysiaBoleh (click to follow live updates), we’ll all be looking forward to a win which will hopefully get Prime Minister @NajibRazak to give us a public holiday in recognition of our national football team joining the ranks of Nicol David and Lee Chong Wei, as champions in ASEAN football!

LASIK – An investment that will change my life

22nd December 2010. That would be the date of my LASIK operation, costing RM2,300 each eye but a with a priceless change of a hassle-free lifestyle, given the number of activities I’m involved in. Most told me, it would be an investment that I will never regret.

Watching the video above, I have to agree with them. Albeit my fear of what-ifs that could happen or go wrong, I am steadfastly looking forward to it, placing both my eyes’ future to the hands of the doctors at VISTA Vision Specialist, the Curve. The Can-Opener really looks scary! – PS looks like I won’t need to worry abt the “can-opener”! Vista uses IntraLASIK technology 😀

Any tips on top of those mentioned in the video would be helpful. Pray for me guys, I hope this would be the best Christmas gift I’d ever have 🙂

UPDATE

– Will be upgrading to Custom LASIK “ASPHERIC” operation. It will cost me RM3,398 per eye, totalling about RM6,800.00 but at least I have the opportunity to pay in 24 months installments, which makes around RM300 a month for 2 years. Why? See benefits after the jump.

Guys who buy toys as a hobby

Are seriously quite mad! Then again, it’s a hobby innit? Buy sell buy sell admire admire keep till next generation sell it as an antique… I suppose that’s typical. Got a chance to get a good look at one Ironman or was it called something else and hey, it’s HEAVY and pretty solid too!

Truth to be told, hobbies are a great lifestyle component to have. It helps takes you out of the typical narrowminded thinking and towards creativity and innovation. I may not find collecting toys to be “interesting”, but hey, I still find it cool, no?

Sleeping peacefully in its house

The guy who owns this War machine is none other than Ren, who’s been helping me in a lot of stuff. I was there to witness his monumental purchase of a RM10k camera, and now, I feel responsible in trying to get him to earn everything back, too 😛

P1030660

Laser eyes!

But all in all, I’m pretty sure he won’t have any issues in getting his return. Thanks to this hobby of his, he’s been making quite some money buying and selling his collection of toys. And these are no ordinary toys I tell ya!

P1030662

Core of Life

For example, one “toy” could cost from RM300 to RM800, and the value could increase with the rarity of the item! It’s a skill that could be learnt, and learn he did since he was pretty young. So again, hobbies, even collecting toys like these, could prove to affect your life and learning experience in their own unique way.

The mask within

In the end of the day, it’s all about removing the mask and seeing the true person inside. So what if he collects toys? Does that make him more childish than most? Nope. He’s probably one of the most mature guy I’ve ever met. And other toy collectors are the same, too, if I may add… People like Super Wilson, who shared with me his love for Transformers toys. (speaking of which, Ren recently bought one, too, and it costed a BOMB and weighted a TON!)

In any case, hobbies are great. So what’s yours?
