Passion Pays: @Spinzer at the Samsung Prestige Malaysia Top 40 Under 40 2012

59594_851705136145_339042682_nĀ It’s been a while, yet it seems like just a few days ago when I went up the stage to receive my Top 40 Under 40 Award in 2012 thanks to Prestige Malaysia. I didn’t expect it to come my way at all, preferring to focus on making sure my idealisms and goals were achieved together with my “rakan seperjuangan”, the people at @EYEProjectMY and @Socialgrooves, as well as other non-profit organisations that I am part of. And the next thing you know… there I was, being recognized for my work for the past 5 years!

To you guys out there, those who are memang looked up to, seen as leaders and spearheaders of your own business, initiatives and projects, this may seem nothing to you among your many awards and achievements. But for me, an ordinary gamer, blogger, anime lover, lazy bum who doesn’t know a lot of things in life and business, preferring to dedicate my life and love through volunteerism; this is something really exceptional to me. A testimony that something I’m doing must be right, despite what others may have said to me. A believe in one self, support from those who have been by my side, mentors from all divide, these were key to my attaining a prestigious award such as this.

Hope you can spend some time reading up on the article written about me above, which was in one of the older editions of Prestige Malaysia. Click on it to enlarge. Use it as an inspiration for all you people out there who THINK you’re ordinary, where people SAID you were ordinary and always will be. Well ignore all of them, and do what you think is the best for your life under some guidance from who you call your mentors!

Ā Some people have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to do, when all they need is one reason why then can. – Willis R. Whitney, American Chemist

All I’m saying in this blogpost, is that Passion Does Pay. The only reason why it has not done so thus far, is because no one bothered to fix things for the future generation to come, focusing only on their own success. Now let’s all get together and pave the path of the future so that others younger than you will be able to push further – provide platforms that have not existed before your time – and I tell you, the benefits will be abundant, priceless!

Is there a motive to all this that I do? Are you really that good of a Samaritan, to help others while taking the risk for yourself?

YES!Ā Yes, there is a motive, and I’m not ashamed to admit it, because I’m no Samaritan, I shisha and drink when I want to, and I don’t admit to be a perfect angel. What is it you ask?

I dream of a world where leaders of the industry, in business, in politics, are all friends of mine, placed there thanks to efforts that I and my friends have gone through. Where they are best fit for their roles in their respective worlds, pushing the boundaries and setting new standards to achieve was was impossible before. When that happens, I would have lived a great life, because everyone would be taking care of me, my family and loved ones. – Chris Tock

Now how’s that for a dream and passion combined? šŸ˜‰

Yeap, INTI International College Subang (IICS) is finally at the last stage of reconstruction and upgrading works following an RM40 million investment to redevelop the campus. That’s a lot of money invested for all future students at INTI, all 7,000 students from Malaysia and across the globe as per their capacity. It’s all going to the new three-storey building housing a 350-seat auditorium that will serve as an impressive venue for presentations by local and international speakers as well as ample learning spaces. It will also house INTIā€™s new School of Art & Design complete with a design gallery, studios, Macintosh and Autocad labs, materials library and design centre.

ā€œOur commitment is to provide an environment which focuses on student-centred learning to adapt pedagogical approaches to studentsā€™ learning styles. We harness the latest technology available to deliver effective learning outcomes and that includes the ample resources that will come with the new facilities,ā€ said Dr Dominic Szambowski, President of IICS.

We agree.

To launch this new development, there will be the INTI Edge Festival from February 20 to 22, 2013 featuring insightful workshops, competitions, celebrity appearances and international cuisines for guests to feast on. These insightful workshops and activities stay true to INTIā€™s efforts in instilling internationalisation, innovation and individualisation into our programs and curriculum.

Check out the map above where the new campus plaza will provide abundant space for outdoor meetings and open-air events as well as social and recreational activities to augment well-rounded personal development. Food and beverage outlets serving a variety of local and international fare will be accessible to INTIā€™s students, staff and visitors. Ample parking bays come with a sub-basement parking lot for 150 vehicles.

Internationalism is an important pillar that holds up institutions of the Laureate International Universities network and the opportunity for members such as INTI to gain access to knowledge, thought processes, best practices, academic talent and resources across the distances makes this ā€˜Laureate advantageā€™ a unique one. Through Laureateā€™s support, INTI is able to provide its students with front-row seats to cutting edge global events such as the World Business Forum and Clinton Global Initiative, where they can learn from top global leaders discussing issues affecting the world today. They also have access to international faculty, overseas guest lecturers and study tours to INTIā€™s partner universities in other countries. This provides students access to an international learning experience beyond Malaysia as part of their studies and as part of their world class education at local prices.

Students of INTI benefit not only from its over 25 years of experience and strong track-record, but also gain from the global synergy and resources that Laureate International Universities provides. INTI is part of Laureate, the worldā€™s largest private education network with a presence in 29 countries, with more than 60 accredited universities and 130 campuses, serving more than 740,000 students globally.

Do the Harlem Shake meets Malaysia – Latest Viral Video that will make you go WTF?!

What does the term viral really mean?

No, it’s not about a video being shared by more than millions. That’s when the video gets trendy, or swag, in current terms.

The-Harlem-Shake

Going viral is when everyone else in the world is replicating that ONE original video and mutating it as it goes along, adding all kinds of WTF elements that will make you want to share it even more, or even join in the fun!

harlem-shake-videos

And that’s exactly what happened with the “Do the Harlem Shake” video, for no seemingly apparent reason. For one, it’s not even a well edited video. Secondly, the music isn’t exactly Gangam-style-catchy (in fact, rather annoying!). Finally… it’s just plain stupid! Watch the original below to see what I mean, that got a whopping 6,271,971 views as of today!

Yeap, just wasted 5 minutes of your time didn’t you?

Now imagine…. hundreds and thousands of other people joining in the fun and making even more creative video, like the Harlem Shake Original Army Edition below, garnering a whopping 7,776,836 views! Check it out!

So I shan’t bother to share with you more videos since you can search for them yourself, but guess what… this Harlem Shake dance has even infected our own soil called Malaysia. Now everyone wants to take claim for being the first in Malaysia to start this stupidity, LOL! Check out one of the first ones below:

Harlem Shake (Malaysia Edition) 1915 views

That wasn’t all, it just gets better and better, with the Zainals joining in! Catch the vid below:

The Harlem Shake! (Zainals Style) 3,427 views

But the one that takes the cake is definitely @shawnleebeatbox’s edition. Super funny and awesome! Even better if he beatboxed it himself šŸ˜›

Harlem Shake (SHAWN LEE EDITION) MALAYSIA! 2,801 views

UPDATE

Looks like the night of 17th was a night of crazy fun with all the fireworks going on, to the point where even WE got hooked into doing the Harlem Shake, Bai Ti Gong style!

If you like it, share it around and even create your own video, despite how stupid it may seem haha. I may even be tempted to do it myself! LOL I DID IT, thanks to Director Ah Eng & Videographer Wilson + all casts including the girlfriend @Jingy_Ron!. Remember to share it at the comment below so I can add it in the post ok?

Go check other Malaysian version of the viral video via this link and see how lame we can be XD

Maxis Chinese New Year 2013: Grandfather says, keep it groovy, keep it long, keep it juicy!

OMG the annoying Tong TongTong Chiang is here, why la must we always play this kind of music in this modern day and time?!” says my ex girlfriend to me. All. The. Time. I usually have no issues but after a while SHE‘s the one I’m annoyed with haha, I mean, it’s a great time to celebrate don’t you think?!

Most people don’t know that the songs played during Lion Dance has an important chorus that brings us all luck. I for one should know, seeing that I’ve performed Lion Dancing during my university days at Imperial College London (heck my team and I performed at Trafalgar Square in front of more than 10,000 people before!) so I really appreciate this age-old Chinese New Year tradition that has stuck around for so long, so much so that we should really keep it alive šŸ™‚

Check out Grandpa’s version of it. You’ve really got to respect this one :p

I’m no Cantonese, but another tradition is that you have to wear a pair of Cheong Fu (long pants). The only issue is our grandparents usually want us to wear it up high, do you remember that?! Haha I’ll never get enough of it!

But Grandpa does! LOL

But hey I won’t judge you if you like that style up. Oppa-Grandpa Style, go faster record and post YOUR video up šŸ˜›

Finally, since my ex is single (who ask her to diss CNY music?!) let Grandpa show you, oh might as well to all the single ladies also, on how to throw oranges and be more fruitful at finding love this Chap Goh MehĀ šŸ˜›

Seriously, I don’t know who comes up with these awesome videos but it really makes for a great laugh, and very appropriate too, since none of us actually spend time with our family more than with our own mobile phones, LOL, so why not show my blogpost to be your family entertainment this Chinese New Year?

Gong Hei Gong Hei, Gong Hei Fatt Choy, dear readers of mine! May you be blessed with prosperity and long life of many snakes to come šŸ˜€
