What's new at iTalk Whoa!- RSS Feeds

Tock’s Asides:
It’s the Deepavali weekend special, so here I am to educate you on a simple term that you’ve most probably seen again and again, but never understood what it was. The feed.

So what is RSS exactly?

RSS is short for “Really Simple Syndication”. It sounds like a mouthful but it is actually just a label. RSS Feeds enable you to get news feeds and updates on any topics that interest you fast and easy. You don’t have to check or be on the lookout on what’s coming as it delivers the headline, short summary and a link back to the full text every time an RSS news feed is updated. That’s why Google Reader is becoming increasingly popular these days as we have less and less time on our hands to actually visit each and every blog or news site we visit.

But hey, look what we have here!

RSS Feed function now available on iTalk Whoa!

iTalk Whoa! now has the ability to pull in RSS feeds too. But how is it any different then any other feed readers out there? Here’s why:

  • If you have been worried about giving your name and email address to subscribe to any newsletter, the RSS feed in iTalk Whoa! has come to your rescue. Subscribing to RSS feed does not require you to do so. No more e-mails and no spams too. Your privacy is assured.
  • You will get updates automatically on your iTalk Whoa’s account.
  • For those who have got used to bookmaking pages, this is no longer necessary.
  • If you are a content owner or publisher, you are able to distribute your contents without being sent to the junk folder.

Okay so now that we know we are able to include RSS feeds into your iTalk Whoa account, how exactly do we do it?

How to configure RSS feeds on your iTalk Whoa’s account?

Select the RSS Feeds under Mail panel and click on New Group to create a new category/group

Pop up box [RSSFeed Category Name] will appear and please input any name for the new group – example News

Automatically the News Feeds will appear in current Category Panel as below:

Now you can input any info on News category by just searching for RSS News that interests you.

And that’s really it!

If you want to know more on this (which makes you a n00b!), MynJayz has just the example for you- read his post to find out how to to add Newsfeeds from http://thestar.com.my/!

Finally, a very Happy Festival of Lights, or Deepavali to you and your family from Spinzer.us!

Beautiful Sweet & Sour Siakap @ Putrajaya – Ceritera Cafe

P1010191Last month I had the pleasure to be invited for a food review all the way out in Putrajaya. I was astonished that the cafe- called Ceritera Cafe– had only decent coverage on news versus the beautiful area it’s located at (Precinct 2) coupled with great food for both the western and asian taste buds. I was particularly wowed by the Asian-themed dishes, though the owner testifies that local residents and office lunchers prefer the western side. But I guess it’s really up to individual taste innit? 😉

P1010182

Monumen Alaf Baru - where Tun M's vision for 2020 is kept, only to be opened when the time comes.

Located near the Monumen Alaf Baru, this cafe is meant to provide a nice chill out area to tourists and Putrajaya crowd alike. Unfortunately that means the rest of the world will not know where to find the best Sweet and Sour Siakap (Siakap Masam Manis) ever, at least, to my experience!

P1010184

Two-tiered style: air-conditioned dining and open-air hawker style!

Located in between a man-made lake and river means that it’s perpetually windy and perfect for a chilled lazy afternoon or breezy evening… Fresh air too, away from carbon dioxide emissions you find in KL.

P1010186

Beautiful view of the blue lake

Over the yonder a jetty is about to be built- primary as a tourist attraction among other activities. If I’m not wrong la.

P1010192

Front look at Ceritera Cafe

The unique design of Ceritera Cafe is a sight to behold!

P1010205

Open air hawker area

Do I spot a shisha counter on the left? 😀

P1010223

Lovely terrace

I think the terrace is perfect for a company get-together or event launch! (It’ll be more amazing at night)

P1010224

Beyond the shipdeck...

Finally, the 180 degree look from the top… amazing stuff wouldn’t you say? ANYWAY let’s get downstairs to business- the actual food review itself!

P1010233

Oxtail Soup

We started the meal with a bowl of Oxtail Soup. Moderately spiced and with a decent chunk of meat, it serves the purpose of warming up your stomach for the dishes to come.

P1010240

Heavenly beverages

We had a go at their unique beverages: (L-R) Simfoni, Astalavista, Pinky Winky and Mango Minggo. They were all different in terms of flavour and texture, and some of them could be your favourite! (Mine was the Pinky Winky 😉 :P)

P1010254

Couldn't resist taking a picture with it

They had an extra selection which I can’t remember the name of, but it certainly looks spooky- perfect for your Haloween drink!

OH AND HAPPY HALOWEEN! 😀 😀 Check out more of their drinks here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=24263&id=118599931512292

P1010255

Zesty Lamb Chop

One of their popular western dishes would be the Lamb Chop, and my verdict- decent sauce, a little too fatty but yummy, tasty meat! I guess it was the marinade that did the trick 🙂 The mash potatoes could be better as it was a tad bland, but I’m sure they’ve done something about it 😉

P1010259

Tasty Chicken Chop

The other dish would be the Chicken Chop, which honestly wasn’t as good as the lamb but it happened to be the favourite in the cafe! Maybe you would like it, and I’m the anomaly 😛

P1010269

Spicy Nasi Goreng Ceritera

On the Asian side, we have the Nasi Goreng Ceritera consisting of spicy fried rice (not too spicy yet enough to feel it!), a couple of satay sticks, a sunny side up and a prawn fritter. A meal on it’s own, I loved combination of the nutty satay sauce with the fried rice.

P1010274

Tom Yam Soup

If anything, THIS dish was definitely an unexpected delicacy here at Ceritera! A definite must try- powerful enough to go WHOAA TOM YAM MASAAAAAM but yet not overpowering the sweetness of the seafood within… Definitely 1 of the 3 dishes I would recommend!

P1010275

Nasi Goreng Kambing

Another dish that I would totally recommend will be the Nasi Goreng Kambing! Usually, one avoids having this particular dish on the menu because it’s not easy to cook mutton with fried rice thanks to the overbearing smell (nasi briyani is different, it’s not fried), but these guys did it really nicely- using peppers! This tantalising dish is a little oily thanks to the mutton but I’ve told them to remove the oil, which would really make the dish perfect 🙂 MUST TRY!

P1010278

Sweet & Sour Siakap

Finally, the best dish of all- the one that you would travel from wherever you are to Putrajaya for- the sweet and sour Siakap or Siakap Masam Masin dish! Crispy at the skin while fluffy from within, the sweet flesh went so well with the amazing sauce that you would not find elsewhere. How is it different, you say? Well the sauce doesn’t produce the overpowering, numbing sensation when you eat it, instead, it’s light AND tasty, spicy AND sweet, zesty AND crunchy- a thoroughly wonderful experience.

Now THIS would be the dish I would recommend to anyone I meet, so I do hope the restaurant owners are able to keep maintaining the quality. Can? 😀

P1010285

The Chef behind the dishes

Thanks Ceritera Cafe for giving the chance to savour your dishes. I’m seriously planning to bring a few more food bloggers in and help boost their presence 🙂 Want in on some awesome Siakap? Let me know!

P1010290

Ceritera Cafe is friendly to people with disabilities

Before I end the post, I wanna me a few points that most people forget to do: Ceritera Cafe is arm-chair friendly, allowing wheelchair-bound customers easy access to its outdoor area located upstairs. We need more of this initiative 🙂

P1010291

Calm river...

The man-made river (not drain, i think) provides soothing ambient throughout… Very very calming…

P1010294

Again, breathtaking view

Finally, the air-conditioned indoor area with glass windows to see outside provides the best eye-pleasing experience 🙂

Visit them, give them a go- it’s worth it especially with many promotions usually notified via Facebook and Twitter, links provided below!

The 10th International APICTA Awards Ceremony 2010

APICTA This time I was invited to the International APICTA 2010 Awards Ceremony that happened last Friday, October 15 at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I hope Rahul and Calvin did too as I brought them under my invitation. It was time we celebrated the great achievements in ICT (Information and communication technologies) in the region, and in my humble opinion it has been a great journey at least from some of the countries involved in Asia Pacific.

It was also the first time that the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) conferred the APICTA Lifetime Achievement Award to YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, our previous Prime Minister, at this particular ceremony that marks their 10th Anniversary of the APICTA Awards, having first started from Malaysia and then hosted at other countries before making a glorious return.

As the dress code dictated for a Black Tie event, we were dressed to kill with the purpose to mingle with about 300 delegates from 16 other countries which makes part of the alliance like Pakistan, Hong Kong and most recently Taiwan!

P1010297

Yours truly and Denise Hooi posing with the banner

Like I said, everyone was dressed to kill! I knew Denise from a long time ago while I was still studying at Imperial College London, and now we’ve all pretty much grown up since then lol!

P1010298

Students from SRK and SMK were here sponsored by MSC Malaysia

I liked the fact that they brought our students to attend the event, giving them an inspiration to look for when it comes to identifying their own set of skills that will surely help them in the game of life, both for themselves and the country!

P1010299

Tun Mahathir leaving the Awards Ceremony

Managed to catch Tun as he got mobbed by many of the people present. Whatever he’s done, for good or for bad, intentional or not, I cannot deny the fact that he’s gotten Malaysia to where she is today in the global arena. Some of you say that it could have been better if he left the Prime Ministerial seat earlier, but with a country like ours, it not an easy task whether you like it or not! For all that’s happened and happening right now, Tun Mahathir still remains the Prime Minister I’ve come to love and admire, especially in the ICT area. The APICTA Lifetime Achievement Award could go to no one else better than him 🙂 CONGRATS TUN!

P1010310

Entering the Dinner Gala ballroom, magnificently presented!

After the Awards was over we were ushered to the International APICTA Gala Diner 2010 and had performances planned out for us by star-studded celebrities like Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Jaclyn Victor!

P1010319

LOVE the amazing moving GIANT LEDS!

It was a really top class event and I really picked up an idea or two for use of our Young Corporate Malaysians Summit 2010 happening this 11th December 2010. If you haven’t booked your date yet you’d better do it now!

P1010321

Violinists were performing magical numbers for us

While waiting for the presentation to start and the food to be served we were entranced by the performance of the band. Really gave a touch of class to the gala dinner!

P1010326

It's a full house... with giant moving words!

Again a look at the fully filled hall and large moving LEDs… I LOVE IT! How much does it cost, does anyone know?

P1010335

The hosts were none other than Naz and Daphne Iking

Having great hosts does play a part in ensuring the event was a success. And in this case, both of them were exceptional!

P1010339

At last the appetizer came! The rest of the food wasn't worth mentioning.

Soon after the food came, and as much as I’d like to share about the food here in Kuala Lumpur Conven
tion Centre, I thought about how unaccustomedly bad it was that particular day that I decide to skip it. The appetizer was the only thing worth shooting and sharing, compromising of 2 pieces of fresh prawns and

Bouncy another… Not cheap pharmacy used without owned infuse not.

what seemed to be a delicate piece of pate. Heh.

P1010346

The Malay Cultural Performance, with Asmaradana music, gorgeous!

The cultural dance performance was next to impress us. The group, called Astana Arts, were nothing short of fabulous! We had so much fun watching as they dance and move along like free spirits on the stage 🙂

P1010358

Chinese dance then ensued

Typically, the Chinese dance came afterwards. Don’t particularly like their choice of music but the smiling faces of them performers was enough to magically make my day!

P1010359

The 1Malaysia dance? 😛

Then the Indian performance happened, before everyone congregated to do a somewhat 1Malaysia dance, if you can call it that haha! Nevertheless it was really beautiful, a show of splendour filled with colours and culture that Malaysia are rich with… something that we can be proud of in front of the other countries within the APICTA alliance 😀

P1010375

Jaclyn Victor belting Gemilang at the end of the show!

Finally we had an amazing performance by Jaclyn Victor of Malaysia Idol fame, grooving the stage with a few jazzy numbers before the crowd decided to request for Gemilang, which is also her winning music on Malaysian Idol a few years back! I sang along to the song too, it’s irresistible and having Jaclyn sing it live in front of us was an experience one could never forget 🙂

And that was the end of the Gala Dinner!

P1010361

Some of the recipients of the award

Before we left we got the chance to take some photos… so presenting to you some of our finalists consisting of students, even! Did you know that Malaysia won four outright and six merit awards? Amazing kan? 😀

P1010362

This is how the trophy looks like... I want one too 😛

The recipients of the trophy above can go back knowing that their work has been recognized by many economies of the APICTA alliance. Following APICTA Chairman Sutee Satanasathapon‘s words, “At the core of it, the International APICTA Award is proof that much can be accomplished when countries work together in synergy”, is something our generation should recognize and start building relations to expand businesses and initiatives outside of Malaysia if you want to truly excel!

P1010366

The Judges: First two not too sure from where, last two are Google Consultants from Pakistan and Malaysia respectively

The judges consists of leaders of the ICT sector within the 16 economies of APICTA, for example, the Google consultant from Pakistan. Our friend Hanson Toh beside him (far right) isn’t a judge, but he’s equally distinguished and recognized by the ICT industry in the region :p

P1010365

The Google Consultant and I

Which is why I didn’t hesitate to take a photo with him 😛 FEHMES MAN WOR! hahahaha!

The three musketeers wuz here! - The 10th International APICTA Awards Night 2010

We left the Awards night feeling in awe of what took place, and also with a few business cards that could otherwise be our ticket to fortune (who knows) as we realized, from what we’ve seen, the power of leveraging skills across the countries in order to create amazing technologies that will help with our everyday lives. I for one, coming from a tech background, will definitely push for advancements that peopl
e are so fond of dismissing. Never say never, we can do it together!

Porking at Brotzeit Bier Bar & Restaurant, Midvalley

There hasn’t been a day since it’s opening on the 6th of October, approximately 9 days ago, when I have NOT seen the word “Brotzeit” buzzing non-st0p out of both my Twitter and Facebook feed. This can mean either of two things: one is that they have been successful since day one in attracting the digital population via social media means, or two, their food is so good that the same people just can’t stop coming back for more!

P1000982

Brotzeit's signature Pork Knuckles

I had a chance to visit Brotzeit 2 days ago after an Advertlets screening, and my guess is that BOTH my hypothesis were right! Do I need to even argue with you if you can’t see the nicely charred caramelized surface and soft tender meat with juicy fats in the picture of Brotzeit’s signature Pork Knuckles up there? If I have to, sod it cause you don’t appreciate good food 😛

P1000984

That's 3 litres of beer for you... Perfect for sharing among friends!

Okay Pork Knuckles aside, Brotzeit is a bar as well so it goes without saying that drinking takes place a lot around here. You’ll find plenty of drafts to your liking, and if you’re no alcoholic like me, they have a good range of drinks to choose from, too.

P1000980

It gets sold out pretty quickly, so get it fast and get it earlier!

Once again, presenting the Pork Knuckles. It’s massive. No joke.

P1000983

A cut into the succulent flesh

Not too dry, not too oily either, crunchy at the outside, fleshy in the inside. YUM. (Oh and there’s the sauerkraut!)

P1000986

Pizza made out of gourmet ingredients!

Another item not to be missed is their pizza. Serious. As in serious bacon overload!

P1000988

Our group after the movie screening!

Here’s Leonard Foong our friendly host for the day, don’t know what Walauwei is showing him tho haha!

P1000991

Sausage fest!!

Man they are HUGE!! The sausage platter boasts a variety of sausages that will make you go ooh and ahh as you bite into the meat… It came in sweet, spicy and cheesy forms, and really, it makes a damn good fulfilling snack! (One person too much laaa)

P1000998

Walauwei stoned edi lol

I don’t know what you call these but they are like sweet crunchies meant to be eaten with jam… Scones perhaps?

P1000996

Apple Strudel and Ice Cream!

Finally we ended our supper (yeap!) with the warm apple strudel and a dollop of vanilla ice cream 😀 Firstly I have to add that the Apple Strudel wasn’t TOO sweet so it went perfectly well with the cold, yummy ic-cream. Kudos!

So that’s about my experience with Brotzeit. Lots of friends there (like Rebecca!), great place to hang out, guess I’ll pay another soon enough. (need to try more of their food, quite a variety!)
